Why do you want me to capture your wedding day? How do you think you'll feel watching everything back in years to come?
When Zain and I first started planning our wedding we knew we wanted it to just be about US and the celebration of our love. We aren't having a bridal party or groomsmen (just our siblings standing with us) and we are doing things our own non-traditional way. We want you to capture the undeniable love and adoration we have for each other while also incorporating our humor, playfulness and spiritual connection.
The Proposal? Tell me everything
Zain sent me on a scavenger hunt around Astoria to all our favorite places while he followed and recorded me on his phone from a distance. He left a note with a rhyme at each location. The last stop (after he sent me to get my hair done) was back home where he had an outfit picked out and a note saying an Uber was on its way to get me. I got in without having any idea where I was going, and it brought me to the River Cafe on the water in Brooklyn where Zain proposed! It was truly a dream.
When you're not in full wedding mode, how do spend your free time? What's your ideal day?
I work in Human Resources for a construction company here in Washington DC and I am a huge foodie. I love cooking, trying new restaurants, and exploring our new city. Zain is an entrepreneur who recently left his full-time job to start his own business. He is very spiritual and meditates/does yoga daily. We love doing outdoor activities, playing with our puppy, ordering a ton of food and binging Netflix, and can have fun doing absolutely anything together.
Why did you choose the wedding venue? What was special about it when you seen it for the first time?
We are city people and wanted to get married facing the NYC skyline (as opposed to within it). We both grew up in NJ and I used to live in Jersey City where Zain and I spent a lot of time together. We love the rustic but contemporary feel of Battello and the food is AMAZING. As soon as we walked in, we knew it was the place we would get married. Battello had to be our choice!
Tell me about your vision for the day itself. You can go in to as much detail as you like. Colour schemes, decor, food, atmosphere, the dress? What experience do you want to give your guests?
Zain and I knew we wanted a bohemian vibe, burgundy as our color, good food/music, and for everyone to have FUN. We care less about the minor details and more about everyone having a great time on the dance floor all night. I am slowly learning more about wedding planning as we go (Zain would honestly be happy eloping somewhere) and I am trying to find ways to incorporate our personalities into decor, favors, etc but most importantly, we want it to just be a day full of love and happiness.
