Why do you want me to capture your wedding day? How do you think you'll feel watching everything back in years to come?
We loved all of the emotion captured in your other featured videos, and have that as our number one priority in our videographer. We also felt like we had a great connection in our conversation and really appreciated the time you took to talk to us and the ideas you shared. You seem passionate about your work and we love that type of energy! Given that both of us are very sentimental, I'm sure we'll love being able to revisit the video in the years to come and look forward to sharing it with our future children.
The Proposal? Tell me everything
The proposal was set for the Fall of 2019, however after booking a trip to Spain for the end of August, Mark was determined to make Spain the destination for the proposal (unbeknownst to Steph). The location was set to be the first stop on the trip - Madrid, and the engagement ring was ordered to arrive a day before we were to fly out to Spain. Unfortunately, it did not arrive on time! The ring was improperly labeled and arrived a day after we arrived in Spain. That did not stop Mark from calling an audible on the fly. Without thinking twice he decided to have a friend help him ship the ring to Seville (our second stop in Spain), express mail. Mark was tracking the package as it made its way to Spain. The ring arrived in Seville before Steph & Mark did, a blessing! However, since it was insured by UPS for over a certain dollar amount, the package did not clear customs. Mark had to file paperwork, including power of attorney, a letter in Spanish citing the purpose of the package, and a percentage of the overall value of the ring - and find a place to print and sign these, without telling Steph any of what was going on. Finally on the last day they were in Seville, the ring cleared customs and arrived at a UPS pick up location. Mark was able to sneak away for a moment to pick it up and was already in talks with a photographer in Seville that would photograph the special moment. At 7:45 pm in the beautiful "Plaza de Espana," with birds literally singing, Mark told Steph to pose for a picture, then put down his bags and walked over to her and got on his knee, shared beautiful words that neither Steph or Mark can fully remember, and she said yes!
When you're not in full wedding mode, how do spend your free time? What's your ideal day?
We really love adventure so our free time is normally trying to find a hike, weekend getaway or vacation to get to. We love to cook and try new restaurants too, so we feel lucky to live in an area with so many diverse food options. We're also both mentors to younger students finding their way through school and the beginning of their career paths. Our ideal day is a little different every day given the variety of commitments we have, but we start every day with a meditation (we read from this book called "Journey to the Heart" that has 365 of them) and have our morning coffee together.
Why did you choose the wedding venue? What was special about it when you seen it for the first time?
The wedding venue was chosen for a few reasons, but the way we found it was that Mark had hiked by it a few times, and when we were figuring out whether to rent a tent, Mark suggested we go look at the Pavilion. It is set against a beautiful location with the cliffs, trees, and a river - all things both of us love.
Tell me about your vision for the day itself. You can go in to as much detail as you like. Colour schemes, decor, food, atmosphere, the dress? What experience do you want to give your guests?
The color scheme is deep jewel tones. Our tablescape features velvet teal runners, satin eggplant dinner napkins, gold flatware and black plates, with lots of gold and glass fixtures. Our flowers are deep pinks, marigolds, blues and deep purple-black flowers. We want our experience to be a romantic, whimsical, nighttime celestial celebration with a little bit of magic and a whole lot of love and meaning in it. We put a lot of though and time into our ceremony and are very excited about it. Mark's Uncle/Pastor Marc (that he was named after) and my father, Stephen, will be officiating the ceremony, we wrote our own vows, and will be performing a unity candle ceremony that our mothers will be reading passages for. We're also excited that our family will all be together, since not everyone lives close and so many of Mark's relatives were able to come in from Puerto Rico.
